Zen and Deep Ecology
A workshop at Shambhala, Golden Bay
4-day option: 17-21 March 2017; 2-day option: 17-19 March 2017
At a time of great political challenges for global democracy and the environment, the need to sharpen our effectiveness as agents of positive change is unprecedented. Assertive compassion is a powerful antidote to hate-speech and manipulation, and capable of harnessing untapped energy as a cause for good. Current and aspiring social activists will benefit from infusing Zen and Deep Ecology principles and practices into their political action as sacred practice.
Workshop Led by:
John Seed (Sydney-based Deep Ecology author and activist)
Sean Weaver (Zen teacher & social entrepreneur)
Jo Campbell (Zen practitioner & Artist).

About The Venue
Venue: Shambhala Retreat Center, Onekaka, Golden Bay. Shambhala is located on the right hand side of the main road between Takaka and Collingwood just before the Mussel Inn. Shambhala is run as a backpacker’s during the summer and a retreat centre during the shoulder and winter months. It is located on rolling dune hills beside the sea with wonderful sea views.
Shambhala is an off-grid location with solar lighting, gas cooking, roof water, and composting toilets. There is a wood burner in the meditation hall, which also warms an adjacent bunkroom. There is access to a flush toilet in the main house, but the toilets nearest the meditation hall/workshop space are composting toilets. The retreat accommodation will involve a combination of cabins, bunkrooms, and a house.
